Southwest Waterfront

The revitalization of the Southwest Waterfront envisions a vibrant, mixed-use community with a variety of public spaces and amenities, blending maritime activity, commerce, culture, and residential housing. This new riverfront neighborhood incorporates restaurants and shops with new residences above, a hotel, cultural attractions, marinas and ten acres of parks and open space. The maritime heritage of the waterfront is celebrated through the preservation of existing resources and the reactivation of the water’s edge.
Situated along the Washington Channel, the Southwest Waterfront enjoys a central location, a short distance from the National Mall and the sites of Washington, DC renewing connections to nearby destinations, both by land and water, is integral to the waterfront plan. In addition, an expanded riverfront promenade will extend the length of the Southwest Waterfront, anchored by major plazas and new public piers. The plan comprises of a series of “places,” varying in scale, program, and design. Together they create a waterfront destination for both local residents and visitors alike.
