Pratt Institute Memorial Hall Exterior Restoration

Brooklyn, NY

EE&K Architects was engaged to design and coordinate the complete exterior restoration of Memorial Hall, a New York City Historic Landmark structure. Water infiltration had made interior renovation impossible without first addressing exterior deterioration. The exterior scope of work included cleaning, repainting and repairing of masonry, stabilization of the existing roof, and repair of parapets and copings. Cost-saving measures were used to avoid the complete replacement of the roof and parapets. EE&K Architects redesigned the existing gutter system — improperly modified during previous renovation campaigns — to correct continuing leakage problems. Construction administration services were also provided to ensure the quality of the work during difficult construction operations. Tom Shutte, President of Pratt Institute, was the recipient of the NY Landmarks Conservancy’s Lucy B. Moses Award presented in 1998.
